First, do you really need an addon domain, or will a subdomain do the trick? Say your main domain is www.mydomain.com. An addon domain would be something like www.anotherdomain.com. A subdomain, on the other hand, would be anotherdomain.mydomain.com.
If a subdomain will do, those are free, and you can add as many as you like. From the Control Panel, choose Subdomains, and enter whatever name for it you like.
But if you need an addon domain, you'll have to pay to register it somewhere. Registering it with BH costs $10 a year. From the Control Panel, choose Domain Manager, then click New Domain.

BlueHost sell additional domains for $10 per year (for .com and .net) or you can buy them from any other registrar and point them to the BlueHost nameservers.
Once the domain points to BlueHost you can then set up the add-on domain through cPanel. (you buy from BlueHost through cPanel too so that is the easier option unless the top level domain you want isn't offered by BlueHost or is cheaper elsewhere).
The only time it gets difficult is where you already have the site hosted elsewhere and want to move it to be an add-on. To do that you ask BlueHost support to set up the add-on for you so you can move the content before redirecting the domain.
