I'm sure this question has been asked a thousand times, i did search the forums but couldn't find it. It must be a common question, so apologies for asking again! Anyway...
My main domain name is reeplies.com. I built my app in ~/rails/reeplies, and so the domain name that shows up is
reeplies.reeplies.com.
This looks a bit silly...i set up a redirection so that reeplies.com takes you to reeplies.reeplies.com, but i'd like to have all my urls just start with reeplies.com.
How can i do this, does anyone know?
thanks

You could just make a frame in http://www.reeplies.com/index.html which redirects to http://reeplies.reeplies.com. That way, the address shown in the address bar will always be "http://www.reeplies.com". The only disadvantage being that people won't be able to make direct links to various parts of your website, only the homepage. I think making frames can also make it more difficult for search engines to find your stuff, but I'm no expert on this.
Hopefully someone else will reply with a better answer...

You should login to your C-panel and visit the FAQ, in the Apache section. There is a specific set of instructions for dealing with your issue.
I don't know if you manage your own DNS, but this can also be handled by use of what is known as "URL forwarding". This is not the same as a redirect and uses a proxy to hide the fact you are forwarding.
Good luck.

Thanks patrick - i followed the instructions in that howto (http://helpdesk.bluehost.com/kb/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&root=39&id=394)
but it hasn't made any difference - do the changes take a while to come through, do you know?
cheers, anyway.

Hello Max.
No, if those instructions did not work for you, you should likely collect all of your work and submit a formal help request.
Or, as I indicated, who handles your DNS? If it is bluehost, then they are the appropriate group to contact as they own all the cards.
regards,
patrick
