I started using Gimp about a year ago and like it pretty well. I was a Photoshop user before that and still use it on occasion.
What is your favorite graphics program?
Photoshop! Best graphics program ever :)

photoshop has become an industry standard and people like me who are looking for a job should learn photoshop because it will help landing a job that uses it.

I use Gimp most of the time. I will, however, load Photoshop through WINE from time to time.

I use the Gimp usually. On rare occasions I have to use Photoshop, which is why I like that nice tutorial site posted by smiffy in this thread (http://www.bluehostforum.com/showthread.php?t=97).

Before this year, I was ready to die for Photoshop, having used it in its various versions for about 8 years now. However I have lately been using GIMP and I´m quite impressed at the relative speed of launching it (compared to Photoshop). Although I would not call myself a "Power" Photoshop user, I am yet to miss it since using GIMP now for two months ... perhaps too soon to tell...

Thumbs up for GIMP:cool:
Inkscape is also nice for vector graphics.

I use Photoshop, but GIMP is great if you dont have money / dont want to pirate. IT has lots of great features.

For anyone who is accustomed to Photoshop but would like to try the Gimp, there's GimpShop (http://plasticbugs.com/?page_id=294)...basically, this guy (Scott Moschella) took the Gimp and rearranged/renamed things to make it feel more like Photoshop. Oh, and it's cross-platform, too...Windows, Linux, and Mac. It's even Universal...as opposed to Photoshop, which might not be released as a Universal binary for over a year!

I use Paint Shop Pro 9 (too cheap to upgrade to 10). I tried Photoshop a few times, but was lost. PSP is easier for the amateur to learn than Photoshop.
Now if Gimp had batch processing and script writing, which it might, I just haven't been able to find it, then I could ditch my Windows OS completely.
Kubuntu it's easy enough for wintards like me :D

Gimp has both batch processing (http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Basic_Batch/) and scripting functionality (http://www.gimp.org/docs/scheme_plugin/). The default scripting environment uses Scheme, but there's a compile option you can set to include the capability for Python scripting and possibly Perl (though if Perl isn't built-in, I know there's a third-party fix).

I'll check that out. If it's as easy to batch as PSP, I will be one step closer to complete OS freedom :D

I have PhotoShop, too, but like PSP better....
Although, I might just take a look at GIMP...

The GIMP every time... but then on Kubuntu, I don't have to think about it much!

I hear the interpolation algorithms in Gimp are superior but I've been using Photoshop since version 2.5 so I can't stop using it now. The UI works for me.
