Hello everyone,

I was hoping someone could provide me some insight into a dilemma I currently have. I'm in the process of transferring a domain I have from yahoo to bluehost. The transfer seems to be going well expect for when I get to Step 3/4: Awaiting Release From Losing Registrar. It is at this page that where I find this:

"According to the Gaining and Losing Registrars, it appears that the codes you've supplied were correct. Once you tell the Losing Registrar (the current Registrar for cinema-repose.com) to release the domain, we will be able to accept the domain into your account. You should receive an email from the Losing Registrar asking you to approve or decline this request. Please follow the instructions and ACCEPT the transfer. If you choose to DECLINE the transfer, you might be able to receive a refund within 90 days if you contact customer service. You may also have to contact or to login to your old registrar to manually release the domain. Otherwise, if you can just wait 7 days, the Losing Registrar should release the domain automatically."

So, it says on the page I was to receive an email from my old registrar giving me the option to approve or decline this request to transfer. My question is what email address did it send it too? I had used Yahoo! Private Domain Registration to block my information (which included my email) so people couldn't see it, which could be the problem. I have since took the Yahoo! private domain status off so it can expose my email to the public. My next question is, how can I resubmit my bluehost domain transfer so it sends it to my email address that can now be seen publicly?

Yahoo! does not allow to you login and manually release the domain, and I prefer not to have to wait 7 days to transfer automatically.

Any help would be tremendously helpful.

I was hoping someone would answer your question as I also have the problem. My previous host accepts cancellation and bluehost accepts transfer of my domain. Both parties says it is the responsibility of the other host. I don't hear anything from the registrar, (Cronon AG - Niederlassung Regensburg ) Inthe meantime my time is running out on the old host.

Alright, here's what goes down.

The new registrar does a whois of the domain, then fires an email at the administrative contact asking for approval of the transfer. When it gets the thumbs-up, the new registrar contacts the central registry, and they notify the current registrar of the transfer request. After it's approved by the current registrar, then the new registrar can transfer and renew the domain.

If the domain is locked or too close to expiration it can't be transferred.

If you don't respond within the specified number of days denying the request then it happens anyway. Responding to approve the request just removes a week or so from the wait time. You need to make sure that the contact details supplied to the domain registrar are correct so that they can contact you.

I am still confused.:
Who is is the registrar of Bluehost or are they themselfs the registrar?
Who is is the central registry?
I presume the current registrar is the registrar of your current host from where you transfer.
So the problem is that the registrar of Bluehost should contact the central registry after you settled thing with your current host.
Can that take longer than 3 weeks??

Bluehost is a certified registrar.

The central registry is a big list of domain names.

The current registrar is the one handling the domain before it is transferred.

No it can't take longer than 3 weeks. It shouldn't take longer than 5-7 days.

This isn't specific to bluehost, this is a general procedure for transferring domains.

You get seven days to decline the move request (in case someone else requested it supplying your info).

If you don't reply to confirm or deny the move within that time it should happen straight after the time expires.

Thanks all, it make more sense now. Although it seems to be a logical straight forward no problem procedure, but if nobody takes responsibility it can be a nightmare transferring your domain name.
Advice: If possible take the plunge and rather register a new name or stay at your present host. My account expires in a weeks time at my old host thus my domain name will be hanging somewhere in between all these "clever people" and maybe just maybe things will happen.
