password protected for primary domain, no passwd for add-on domains

I would like to ask a short question, your answer will be appreciated.

Is it possible to put password protection for primary domain name but password-free for add-on domains ? if yes, how ?

I could be wrong about this, but I think you'd have to create a folder under public_html to hold your 'primary domain' in order to password protect it without affecting the addon domains, or any other folder under public_html for that matter.
