Anyone have a step by step guide on how do to this. I have created a subdomain in cPanel which works fine, but if in try to install wordpress them map a subdomain to it it ends up redirecting to the primary domain. Thanks very much.

How are you installing wordpress? It should be simply a matter of uploading all the files to the correct folder and then entering the required subdomain name into the appropriate field when you run the install. That was all I did for my wordpress installation (except that I used an add-on domain and specified that name instead of the subdomain or folder name).

I installed WP in a subdomain folder here, then built my site. But when I transferred my domain name to BH and tried to move the WP installation I ran into some problems. I finally got it done, but remnants of the initial installation folder name are present. Sorta like dirt in the corners if you know what I mean.
And dirt in the corners can harbor little buggies that can come back to bite you in the a$$ later...

I am having a simialr problem, when I installed Wordpress I can only get to it by typing in
www.maindomain.com/add-on domain/
and now when I type in
www.add-on domain.org it redirects me to my main domain
when I go to the add-on domain manager it says not redirected
I have all the files in /public_html/add-on domain

Go to the admin panel, under the options tab change the wordpress and blog addresses to reflect the addon domain.

Felgall, in your post you mentioned uploading wp files to correct folder. Which folder is that for add-on domain?
I guess basic question is which folder is root for add-on domain?
When I added domain I created a new directory
public_html/add-on domain name/main domain name.
I created a database for add-on domain. Do I upload wp to the folder with same name as add-on domain or to add-on domain name/public_html?
Many thanks

You put it in whichever folder that you specified when you set up the add-on domain.
For example when I set up the add-on domain felgall.net I defined that it would point to the /netblog/ folder in my account. I therefore uploaded WordPress to that folder and specified felgall.net as the location when configuring the script.

create your subdomain and then use an ftp program and do a manual install of wordpress into the directory that is the subdomain. for example something.nothing.com your directory would be something and you just have to install wordpress into that folder.:)

Yea, I would just get into your cpanel, browse directly into created subdomain directory and upload there.
Can you freely change the theme of Wordpress on the server so the look and feel is completely different?
I am assuming there might be some configurations to change, but should you back it up before doing so as well?

You can change the theme whenever you like. Some themes may not work or cause problems, in which case you can always just revert back to the previous theme. After installing a theme always test it in a separate window or tab to make sure it works properly. Also check that each theme you install is compatible with the later versions of WordPress.
If, by some chance, your site stops working after you install a theme, you can always revert back to the default theme through phpmyadmin. The following tutorial will also help with that: http://wordpress.shadowlantern.com/?p=54
