If you found yourself in a David and Goliath fight ... would you run or fight?:p

Depends.

I'm a pilot and love to fly. Hate to fight.

But I don't like corners.

I'd run my skinny ass the hell out of there ;)

What if your ass isn't skinny? :D

What if you think you are dealing with a rat...so you set a rat trap...but instead of catching a rat ... Goliath shows up. Then what?

Then what?

Then I'd run!

Who is the goliath you are dealing with and why do you think you must fight or take flight?

I guess if you are not familiar with the Bible, then it would seem confusing huh...;)

See here...http://www.jesus-is-lord.com/goliath.htm

Lets also keep this from getting into a Religion debate :)

There's no where to run.

BearState

I'm familiar with the David and Goliath parable from the Bible.

The thing is, that jlo posted as if there was some Goliath in real life, threatening and somehow in the context of this forum, one must wonder if there is another story behind it related to JLO's web site.

Or am I missing something? Does JLO stand for Jesus Lord Omnipotent?

There's no where to run.

Then I guess I'd have not choice BUT to fight and hope that I don't get the crap beaten out of me...or killed

Ok, I'm sorry is there was any offense.

No. There's no offense. Just curiosity. What's this thread all about?

When in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout.

*I would run*

No, No, No!

That sounds too much like a Phys Ed Class.

Run, Jump, Sit-Up and Spit-Up!

Actually, the perfect jargon or weasel word term for that is : Flail-Ex.

An Exercise in Flailing about. The perfect drill for the reactive mind.

The reactive mind you see, is undisciplined, so much so that to discipline it in the act of flailing suffers no loss, no cost and no sweat off anyone's brow unless of course, they are forced to watch. Then it's like peeling back finger nails and sewing eyelids open with pepper water dripping on naked eyes.

Now that requires a disciplined mind.

[QUOTE]hope that I don't get the crap beaten out of me...or killed/QUOTE]

Some things are worth dieing for...Freedom, Justice, and Righteousness.
Our forefathers knew this; but we have forgotten.

The world would indeed be a frightening pit of despair if there were no one willing to defend freedom.

Anyways, this is just another off-topic post amongst all the other thousands of off-topic posts.

Anyways, this is just another off-topic post amongst all the other thousands of off-topic posts.

Thank you for clearing that up.

Now let me set you straight. There are some of us who have not forgotten and there may be some who have or have heard it so often that they view it with contempt, believing that sacrifice is another term for usary.

I've been around for a long time. And I've seen people cop the aptitude that they should let someone else make the sacrifice. I've seen feeble whining worry be ****ed people cry "Oh my god! Our military carry guns!! Take the guns away from them before they hurt themselves!!!" What a hostile competitive and unforgiving place this world still is and shallow minded pacifists can't see the need for defense and the tools required to provide for that defense? "Oh my god," they cry, "Those seven Astronauts got killed on a fool's errand." and they argue "We should've spent that money right here, caring for people who need it." I wonder who they have in mind?

We have young men and women who volunteer every day to go in harm's way so that we can sit back in comfort and pass judgement on them. And anyone who judges them badly does so without my respect. Those seven astronauts volunteered to do what those week willed people couldn't even begin to contemplate doing. They didn't do it to show anyone up, lift their noses like snobs or any of that crap. They saw an adventure, they saw a job to be done and they rose to the challenge. Any fool who thinks that we should use our tax dollars to socialize and cow coddle people instead of ENABLING them to take on the challenges, meeting the demands of unbridled population expansion and depletion of earthly resources by looking to space isn't worth listening to. They are out of touch with the reality of an undisciplined world, governed, but wrecklessly steering a chaotic course into the future.

Go with the folks who meet challenges. Challenger is an appropriate name for that monument in my memory, that shining example of courage and hope for the future. The archetype of sacrifice and determination to do as individuals, what can be done to help steer our collective future in a positive direction.

If YOU find yourself forgetting what sacrifice and courage mean, remember Challenger. And KNOW that there are people in this world who will volunteer and put themselves in harms way and whether they do it for adventure, a thrill, dedication or true sacrifice born of courage ... give them your respect ... and never fail to give those who follow them your every support.

Don't let their dream die. Live it!

Now see how you set me off. If that was in me, imagine how many others carry a similar credo.

It may not be as off-topic as you think ... this forum is a forum for business people, entrepeneurs, people who know that to achieve their goals, they must make personal sacrifices to achieve personal ends. They are not far from what I see in Challenger.

The answer to your question then is BOTH, fight and take flight and challenge the very heavens.

Good grief!

This Off Topic thread that warped my head for a while has already got 188 views. And there are people here who clamour over newbies repeating the same question that was asked 2 months ago and again 2 months before that?!

If only my web site could generate that kind of traffic with 3 words.

:D

Happy 4th everybody!

I just had to resurect this thread as I had raved about Challenger in connection with JLO's mention that people don't sacrifice anymore.

Think about it. The Challenger Disaster and then Columbia.

If you were one of Discovery's crew wouldn't you have prepared yourself for making the ultimate sacrifice?

Take time out if you will and reflect. There are people in the world you see clearly and are willing to put up the right stuff, for the right purpose.

If God see's us through other people's eyes, then God sees Discovery through EVERYONE's eyes.

I am not a big man, but...

Personally I will fear and even cower from a fight. And I have angoraphobia (google it- Fear of open spaces or of being in crowded, public places like markets. Fear of leaving a safe place) and it causes my blood pressure ( jumps to over 220) and testosterone and adreneline to rise to dangerous levels.

All you have to do is seriously piss me off during a bout of angoraphobia in public, and this little guy will bounce yo-ass off the wall. Repeatedly, with pleasure. My fight or flight instinct causes my panic attacks in public, all it takes is irritation to turn fear into absolute rage.

But if it comes to a seriously mad and angry woman? run, Run, RUN for the mountains!
