It's possible to use an external DNS for an addon domain?

I'm afraid I don't understand that question. If you have a domain that you want to host at BH, you can either transfer the domain registration to BH, or you can just point the existing domain registration to the BH nameservers, ns1.bluehost.com and ns2.bluehost.com.

When it comes to DNS servers, you can point your PC or router to any DNS servers you like, but that has nothing to do with where your domain is registered or hosted. A DNS server is just like a phone book - it translates domain names into IP addresses. In theory, DNS servers everywhere should contain the same information.

 I'm sorry my question was to short, I've a domain at BH, and want to add other addon domains, the dns server for these domains are not BH, and I don't like to modify these DNS (myotherdomain.com), I only like to point from these DNS to BH a web site (www.myotherdomain.com), I have other services for these domains and I need a full control over DNS.

So it's possible to point from my DNS to an IP address where my site at BH is located? or do something similar?

Thanks for your comments
Alfredo

You're still talking about apples and oranges. You keep talking about "DNS servers," but I'm pretty sure you mean nameservers. You can't modify a DNS server. A DNS server is like a publicly-accessible phone book - it translates names (like yourdomain.com) into IP addresses (like the IP address of a BH server). Your domain names aren't "assigned" to any DNS server - worldwide, DNS servers synch with each other to make sure they're all pointing to the correct IP address for a domain.

Let's see if we can figure out what you're trying to do. You have a domain registered somewhere (like GoDaddy) called myotherdomain.com. Do you want to host the files for myotherdomain.com on your BH account? If so, you need to change the nameservers for myotherdomain.com to point to ns1.bluehost.com and ns2.bluehost.com. Then you make myotherdomain.com an addon domain on your BH account. You don't have to move the domain registration - that can stay right where it is.

I have the same question. Specifically, I have a registered domain that is served from another dns server. If I add a dns alias record, say www.newdomain.com to point to the IP address of my hosting account (the bluehost server where my main site is hosted) - will my addon account work without changing the dns server entry for newdomain.com?

I have the same question. Specifically, I have a registered domain that is served from another dns server. If I add a dns alias record, say www.newdomain.com to point to the IP address of my hosting account (the bluehost server where my main site is hosted) - will my addon account work without changing the dns server entry for newdomain.com?I don't think that will work, because that IP address isn't "yours" - this is shared hosting. The alias would redirect to an IP address, but the BH server would have no idea which domain on that server was being referenced.

If you want to host newdomain.com on Bluehost, you need to change the nameservers for it to ns1.bluehost.com and ns2.bluehost.com, then make newdomain.com an addon domain on your BH account.
