How to move working website?

Hi guys. I have a client who has a working website that he wants me to rebuild. It is hosted on a server other than Bluehost. Although I guess I could try to get the login information from the current webmaster and edit the site in place, I would rather move it over to Bluehost since I am familiar with Bluehost's nuances and idiosyncrasies. I know that I wouldn't give MY login to another webmaster.

My question is simple: How does one transfer a working site, including domain name, over to Bluehost, with little downtime. My experience indicates that sometimes transferring a domain name can take a while and I don't want the site to be down for more than a couple days.

You can do it with no down time at all provided you do it all in the right order.
