Switching from POP to IMAP?

I know this is a basic question, but I currently use POP3 for email (with Evolution on Linux for my mail client). I would like to switch to IMAP though to make it easier to check email from different locations and computers.

So my question is how do I switch over? Is it just a matter of setting up the corresponding IMAP accounts on my mail client or is there some additional setup I need to do in the cPanel?

Also, I currently have a fairly extensive directory structure on my mail client for organizing old email I want to save. Will this structure and old email get uploaded to the mail server as well when I make the switch?

As far as I know it is just a matter of changing the one setting in your email program. I have several email accounts set up as pop3 and a couple using imap using the same email software and with the imap ones that was all I did. Those ones hadn't got any emails stored at the time though.

I think I set up a test email account to try it out first, before switching my "live" ones. At least I'll have an idea of what is involved.
