Help! I am a novice who offered to help out a friend build his online catalog with a shopping cart. I have been trying to use what is available through bluehost cpanel, but I just don't have enough knowledge to build a website, catalog database and then connect them using php - is that even correct?

Can someone point me in the direction of a one-stop solution to my problem? Or does anyone out there do this for a living and can offer services? I know my friend is looking for a reasonably priced solution, so any advice would be great!

I looked at Joomla but didn't really get it (of course I didn't look at it all that long). I can also build pages in FrontPage, but then how do I connect them to the catalog database (right now I have an MS Access database)? I guess I also have a problem with the database being in MS Access and not in MySQL. Oh and one more thing, the whole kit and kaboodle needs to be easy enough for my friend to update the products in his catalog.

Thanks!

I guess I also have a problem with the database being in MS Access and not in MySQL.I can't help with the rest of your questions, but this one, I do know about. MS Access requires a Windows web host, and BH is, like most web hosts, Linux-based. So yes, MS Access is definitely a non-starter in this environment. :(

Look here (http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/E-Commerce/Online_Catalogs/index.html) and ignore anything yellow.

Perhaps a shopping cart system such as Zencart might do what you require.
