spammers

i am doing a forum and i keep getting spammers putting post on there. they dont show up because i dont aprove them but. i read somewhere that i could use htt access to block the ip address's of the spammers, can someone tell me what to call the file including the extension and an example of what to put into the file. i want to deny ip address's and then allow the rest of the address's that arnt listed in the deny files.
any help would be great

You can do this in cPanel under the Deny IP

If it is a PHPBB forums you can IP ban on the admin side as well as email address and badname bans.

im using wordpress. i only want to block access to the one directory.

I believe that you can pick and choose posts or pages that allow comments. Maybe that would be an alternative solution.

What about the "IP Deny Manager" thingy in the cPanel? I haven't used it, but it might help you out.
