In Internet Explorer's address bar, enter ftp:// followed by your username, a colon, your password, an at sign and your upload server address. So if your server address is homepage.com, it will look this: ftp://username:password@homepage.com
You will then be asked for your username and password.

It's actually just ftp://username@yourdomain.com
However, IE7 does not directly support FTP. When you enter the address in the IE7 address bar, it simply takes you to Windows Explorer, which does support FTP. (Firefox will connect to your site, but there's no easy way to move things between your PC and the server, so it's not very useful.)
You really would be better off using an FTP client program. The free offerings include some excellent stuff - why do you not want to use them?

If you are on a windows based machine I would suggest using Filezilla. It is a great free ftp program.

The FTP functions of Windows Explorer is rather limited.
