I'm planning to park an alternative domain in bluehost. Is it possible to park the domain in bluehost and manage e-mail on a different host? I've got a separate server for e-mail which I would like to maintain.

yes, you'll just change the MX records to point to the other server

I've the following values in my DNS Manager.

Host Numeric IP
--------------------------------------
www 63.XXX.XX.XX

@ (None) 63.226.86.18

* (All Others) none

mail.domain2.com 210.XXX.XXX.XXX

mail.domain2.com 203.XXX.XX.XX

Right now the mailserver is at mail.domain2.com. If I park domain2.com will the mail services at mail.domain2.com get affected? Can you explain a bit more please? I'm technically not so sound as far as DNS,MX settings are concerned. Or if you are familiar with the domain control panel at Network Solutions (http://networksolutions.com) can you advice me on how to go about chaging the records without affecting the mail servers?

The best thing to do would be contact bluehost's and Network Solutions customer support. I dont want to give out any false information :)

Hi,

You can do what you have described. It is done via the DNS settings at Network Solutions. You need to change the www record to the IP address of the Bluehost server you are on. If you want to "catch" all requests to any host in the new domain, then change the @ IP address to the Bluehost server also.

Leave the mail records alone and make sure that the MX records for the domain still point to the mail records. Once this is done you will then be able to add the parked domain to your Bluehost account.

@areidmtm : I totally understand! I'm going to mail bluehost if gbob's advice does not work. Thank you.

@gbob: Thank you very much for your advice. I'll check this over the weekend and post back here.
