Why is /home/user/etc/ assigned to group 'nobody'?
Why is /home/user/perl/ unlistable?
I got this:
ls: .: Permission denied
"perl" folder is owned by my user/group.
I can set up Dreamweaver to use ftp successfully,
but would prefer to use sftp. I've used sftp with
other hosts using Dreamweaver. What am I missing?

I found some answers from support:
/home/user/etc/ and /home/user/mail/ are set up as user 'nobody' because "the admins set the group permissions to nobody due to restictions for groups on the server," according to tech support. Okay.
/home/user/perl/ was mistakenly unlistable. They fixed it.
However,
I can use putty with ssh and filezilla with sftp fine on Bluehost.
I cannot use sftp on Dreamweaver, and tech support doesn't seem to be able to get beyond relatively standard replies:
first time:
"For SFTP you will need to use your cpanel user name and password. The host will still be your domain name. If that doesn't work please respond to this ticket and let us know so we can look further into this."
second time:
"you need ssh enabled and to use the main user name and password. That should get you connected. You cannot use any other user name other than the main user and pass. If there is anything else you need from us, please just let us know."
Dreamweaver 8.0.2 does sftp on other hosts.
What's different for Blue Host?

Make sure to include those prior responses and that you have already done that when you contact them so that the person responding is aware that you are already past that point. Since different people in support may be involved at different times they may not check all of the past information properly before writing their reply.
