Transferring Wordpress to Bluehost

Hello!

I'm sure this has been answered a million times, and I have even found some of the older threads on this topic...but I am an idiot when it comes to websites, html, web hosting, etc.

For the past several weeks, I have been trying to take my old wordpress account (the free one) and transfer the information to my new bluehost account. How do I do this?

I tried installing wordpress to my bluehost account and it worked. But it set up a new wordpress account and I couldn't transfer my old wordpress account to the new one. So I then un-installed wordpress from bluehost. I am so confused on what to do, especially in my file manager.

Please someone help...this is SO frustrating!!

You haven't provided any information about your old Wordpress account. You need to extract the data from the database there using whatever facility that the service there provides for doing so in order to have the information to import to your new setup. If you are using a custom template then you also need the content of the wp-content folder to copy across as well.

I did a search of the Wordpress.org and Wordpress.com forums, and it appears that your solution would be to:

1. Set up your Wordpress installation on your domain
2. In your Wordpress.com account, go to Manage -> Export and download a XML file of your content
3. Log into your domain's Wordpress installation and go to Manage -> Import, choose Wordpress from the list, and then browse for the file you exported above.

I've never used Wordpress.com, so there may be some issues to consider (for example, I doubt this will bring over any pictures you've posted). Also not sure if there is a way to transfer themes from WP.com or if you just need to find a similar one that somebody ported over.

I am trying to re-install wordpress right now, so hopefully I will be able to transfer my old wordpress to my new domain.
