Hi everyone, I admit I'm probably an idiot compared to everyone here. But I have a question. I want to open a website and just recently bought a domain with bluehost and now have an account. I also downloaded oscommerce and was wondering how do I upload it so that I can start tweaking my website? What I've done so far is create a new SQL database along with the first user, admin (me). From there, I don't know how to upload it, do I have to upload every individual file? or can I just upload a folder? Please someone help me, I just can't figure this out and I've read tutorials but it's not working! Thanks everyone.

Which FTP program are you going to use to upload the files? Most will just let you select the entire content of a folder so as to upload everything in one go.

What do you mean by an ftp program? Basically under my control panel: Files There are the buttons, legacy file manager, file manager, ftp accounts, ftp session control, unlimited ftp, anonymous ftp. Do I need to dl an ftp program or somethin? Thanks

You are better off using a stand-alone FTP program on your computer since that makes it easier to upload hundreds or thousands of files in one go.
If you need to upload just one or two files then the Legacy File Manager might be convenient but it will not be anywhere near as easy to use as an FTP program.
There are dozens of different FTP programs available to be downloaded from the web and many are free. Many web editors also include their own FTP functionality so that they can both edit your files and upload them.

Ok after a few hours of playing around with everything, I managed to dl filezilla ftp client. Created an ftp account on bluehost, and connected it to filezilla. From here, where do I extract oscommerce because that is exactly what I plan to use for my website? Thanks so much for your help!

OSCommerce is very easy to setup. it requires mySQL and php in your server.
the below steps probably help you
1) Create a MYSQL database in your server ( remember its username and password)
2) Extract the oscommerce package in to your webfolder
3) browse your site from a browser, then the OSCOmmerce installation page wil come up
4) Give necessery information like the Database name, and its username & password
5) and at the end of the installation, oscommerce will ask for an admin account to be setup, give the details.
6) your oscommerce store will be ready
if you need any further information about the oscommerce setup ,sometimes i can help you. i already setup an oscommerce site

You don't need to create an FTP account for you to be able to upload files to your BlueHost account as you can use the master access that BlueHost set up with the account. The FTP account creation option is so that you can give other people access to specific folders within your account rather than giving them access to the whole account as you get with your master access.
