View Full Version : mail quota exceeded on empty mail box?

I received a message that the quota on a mailbox was about to be exceeded so I should remove messages.

My mail client is set up to always remove messages from ther server. I went online to the mail box and there were a few current messages. I deleted them so there is no mail there but still on the email account list it shows this email to have about 10 megs usage. The trash box is empty. The box trapper is disabled.

I have other email boxes that receive much more email; they show a little mail in storage; no more than I would expect.

I upped the quota so there is no problem at the moment but why does it show 10 megs of mail when I can't see a thing?

This rings a bell. See if this post (http://www.bluehostforum.com/showpost.php?p=21109&postcount=6) is any help.

I just signed up because I've been getting that 'mail quota exceeded' when I've got no emails there. Thanks for the info.

Have you emptied the trash and junk folders?

There is a knowledge base article about this:

http://helpdesk.bluehost.com/kb/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=540

The command used via SSH shown at the bottom of the article doesn't work as it is written but the rest is accurate enough. I've done this a couple of times now with no problems, so far!
