Transfer existing email accounts from old sever to bluehost

Is it possible for me to transfer the existing email accounts I have set up on my current host to my new bluehost account? How do I go about doing so without losing messages already received, or to prevent messages from not finding their way to the new host?

I'm not sure if this can be possible...you might just have to do it manually. Bluehost may not be able to to anything. Email support@bluehost.com and see what they can do

When we transferred to BlueHost we downloaded all the messages from our old host to Outlook Express using POP. We then uploaded them to BlueHost using IMAP. It took a while... and was very annoying... but it works.

To prevent from losing the emails coming to the server while you move, all you have to do is create the email accounts on Bluehost before you actually change the DNS information. If the email accounts exist on both the old server and Bluehost, during the propegation the emails will be going to at least one of the 2 places and after 24 hours, everything should be over on Bluehost and the old one will stop receiving the mails.

As far as keeping the old emails, you can copy the mail folders from your old host, but the easiest way is to just POP em down as suggested.

My old webhost created standard UNIX like mail box with squirreill Mail.

I can read those files with any standard Unix Mail program when I login with SSH, although it would have been nice to see them with my new squirrell mail folders.

I notice that BlueHost Squirrell Mail configuration uses individual files for each mail. Even attachés the name BlueHost to these mail files.

Is it possible for me to switch Squirrell Mail to use standard UNIX mail boxes to ensure future portability.
