and now I am only a moderator - don't have access to the administrative control panel. I have posted on their forum but have no response. Can I use phpmyadmin to fix this? Is there some record that I can delete or edit? If so, which one? Or do I need to uninstall and start all over? Any help is appreciated

First back up your phpbb database.

If you are using phpbb v2 open phpmyadmin. From there open the phpbb database (should be something like bb1) then open the table the table that ends with "_users". you can browse or search for the entry with your username and edit it. You will need to change the user_level from 2 (moderator) to 1 (Administrator).

If you are using phpbb there should be a similar setting in its database.

Remember to back up the database first because if you change the wrong value you could make things worse.

Thanks! But I was a little too ancy :( I uninstalled phpbb v3, deleted the subdomain that I used, deleted the database also and deleted the folder that phpbb was in. I think reinstalled everything...but I still get the same message :(

What did I miss out on?

I contacted BH. They were able to install phpbb on my space with no problems but I still cannot - I still get the message that says I don't have admin rights -

Access to the Administration Control Panel is not allowed as you do not have administrative permissions.

I have chosen the option that says delete all cookies related to phpbb. I have also downloaded Opera and tried to open it from there...and still get the same results.

Any suggestions? I don't even know where to begin.

Tadaaaaaaaaaa! I found the answer. The problem is not in the install of phpbb by simplescripts but in the link that simplescripts gives to the admin control panel (acp) The link does not work. If you personally go to the general login page, login and then look for the acp link it works fine. What a pity...so much time wasted :(

Is there somewhere or some way I can post this info so that it is easily found by someone who has the same problem? maybe save them 5 or 6 hours of grief :(

It looks like someone over at SimpleScripts monitors these types of issues as well. My phpbb admin link changed :)

If you report SimpleScript bugs to BlueHost support then they can fix it since SimpleScripts is a BlueHost product.
