Well I suppose most people will like this but if they had posted that when I originally signed up I wouldn't have.
It's unrealistic that every account could have unlimited storage and transfer and I like the idea of knowing my resource limits so that I can plan for them. Now I wont know until some tech emails me saying I'm using too much of the shared resources

To me, this is a bit like that old gag:
Sign in restaurant: "All you can eat, $8.95"
"I'm sorry sir, but you'll have to leave now."
"Why?!"
"Because that's all you can eat for $8.95."

Crap. That's not really something that you want to see.
Although, I don't really think it will apply to me since I will never reach the old space or bandwidth limits anyway... (Which is most likely their assumption for most of the accounts they host.)
So, who wants to see how much space and bandwidth they really allow you to have?

For people like me and probably thousands of others with very modest requirements Bluehost already offered me unlimited resources, far more than I could ever hope to use.
I see this as bad news. There are some users out there who will attempt to use every last byte of what they're being offered. I've just looked at two of Bluehost's biggest competitors and they're going for big price reductions instead but no doubt they'll follow Bluehost's lead if they feel they have to.
It'll be interesting to see what Matt Heaton (http://www.mattheaton.com/) has to say the next time he updates his blog. ;)

Unlikely. Storage space used and CPU load don't really have much to do with each other.
I don't expect this to be a problem, for a few reasons. First is the newest addition to BH's terms of service:
Bluehost Web Hosting intends to offer services to host web sites, not store data. Using an account primarily as an online storage space for archiving electronic files is prohibited.
So, someone who's just stashing mountains of files on there can be gotten rid of, if BH decides he's a problem.
Second, you can't store copyrighted material on BH, so no one can upload bunches of high-def movies, for example.
Third, upload speed is capped at the BH end of the connection. I'm not sure what the limit is, but I'm sure it's low enough that uploading hundreds of GB of stuff would be pretty tough.
So, you have to ask yourself, "What could a user store on these servers that would really be a burden, yet not violate the terms of service?"

To me, it is just a gimmic. Pity bluehost decided to do it. Already they were offering unrealistic amounts of space and bandwidth. Overselling is fine within realistic limit, otherwise it is a joke.

Anything over about 5Gb is effectively the same thing as saying unlimited anyway since the number of centuries that it would take most people to fill 5Gb with web pages is more generations than most people would normally think about.

I'm more worried about the unlimited bandwidth than the unlimited space...

Hmmmm so with unlimited storage and bandwidth I could create a website that offers unlimited free storage

Hmmmm so with unlimited storage and bandwidth I could create a website that offers unlimited free storage :rolleyes:As long as you could prevent other people from uploading copyrighted material, I suppose you could. But since you can't do that (the former), you can't do that (the latter). The phrase that comes to mind is, "They've got you, comin' and goin'." :D

I'm not fond when company's oversell and do not set a strict limit. New people can come on and think the sky's the limit on this budget price - when its not.

I fully agree. Based on the fact that any heavy activity (like even a couple people browsing your gallery or blog) will get you banned I am quite sure there were NO customers using those thousands and thousands of gigabytes of disk space and bandwidth advertised before. Also it has to be mentioned that the TOS has been changed to discourage "storing of electronic files" and specifically to deal with (=kick out) people hosting perfectly legal/public/open source linux distributions from their bluehost accounts because it's not "fair to the other customers". That was with specific quotas in place and when the "unfair" people were using well under 5% of the advertised numbers. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds but I'm willing to eat my hat if ANY customer at all goes over the quotas we had before and takes advantage of this great-looking-on-paper unlimited offer.

I think that all we can do is wait and see what happens next. I don't think BH, like any other company, would deliberately do things that would upset and/or drive away the majority of thier customers.
Granted, there always will be those who will not be happy about something no matter what is done.
To quote another saying: "Only time will tell."
