I have applied for and received SSH access to the server. A friend has given me the "general idea" of how to set up Firefox so that Firefox will use an SSH connection but did not give me the specifics. Let me explain.

The directions were:

In FF go to Tools, Options, Advanced, Network, Settings, manual proxy config

I can get to that place, no problem, but I don't know the magic numbers to put in the blanks or which of these blanks to use :(

Can anyone help?

Maybe a more appropriate question is how to setup Putty? I know that I have to use Putty to establish the connection first but I don't know what the hostname, etc will be.

AFAIK, once you've started PuTTY, there's no need to use FireFox.

The initial screen for PuTTY allows you to configure it. The only thing that I recall changing was the 'Host name' field under the default 'Session' pane. Just enter your domain name there (no 'http://www.' on that) and click 'Open' to initiate the SSH session.

In part you are right...if I just want a connection to the server. But I believe there is a way to use FF in conjunction with putty so that I get a secure connection - I believe a direct line to BH servers.

Sorry, I really don't know how you'd go about using FF in conjunction with putty. If it's possible, I'm sure that someone here will be able to help you.

well..i just connected...you may be right. I can now access some sites that before seemed to be blocked by the bamboo curtain - location issue :( Still I am open to any more input anyone has about SSH.
