FTP link trouble! please help

Hi everyone, i am working on a site and i have set up the FTP so at the moment people can access it through a prgram like filezilla etc. but would like to have a link off the actual site to the FTP directory where anyone i have given the password to can download files.

i have set up a public FTP account with with a password and put the link on my page. but when u try to access it, it says the password or username is incorrect..

i dont have much experience with FTPs so if anyone can help that would be great!

i have just worked out, the link itself works perfectly if i include the password in the address... however i would like there to be a prompt to ask for the password.

how can i do this?
