Hi,
Is there anyone out there aware of an opensource editor that will create rotators.
I don't see who Photoshop will do this. Can it?
I've looked at Gimp and it isn't clear yet that Gimp can do it.
Any Sugs?

Could you be a little more specific on what you mean by Rotators?

Image rotators! This is a simple device that uses a gif format and several images and over time fades one image out and replaces it with another, going through several photos with similar dimensions before restarting the cycle.
Go the Watsonville 2008 Airshow web page and there's a fine example there.

You can also do it with Flash if you want to substitute the images often. :)

I was like, mmm, yeah that's fun the text just sits there. And then I clicked on it. :D
How did you do that? You must have used some Flash 3D library, but what? I must know! :D
EDIT: BTW, very nice JavaScript dock! I'm impressed.

Do a search for Papervision 3d. That example just scratches the surface of what's possible. The dock was just something I borrowed from someone who made it available, then I modified it with my own logos/icons. When I'm finished with my portfolio I'll actually link it up to something.

I've never used it, but Gifsicle (http://www.lcdf.org/gifsicle/) makes this claim:
Gifsicle manipulates GIF image files on the command line. It supports merging several GIFs into a GIF animation; exploding an animation into its component frames; changing individual frames in an animation; turning interlacing on and off; adding transparency; adding delays, disposals, and looping to animations; adding or removing comments; optimizing animations for space; and changing images' colormaps, among other things.
Both Ubuntu and Mandriva Linux have it in their repositories for easy installation. If you're stuck with Windows, there is a build for it right on the web site.

Gracias Amigo!
That was indeed easy to do. The real work is done in ImageReady Elements, not Photoshop. CS3 doesn't link out to Elements like 7.0 did. But at the same time, installing CS3 did not uninstall Photoshop 7.0 or ImageReady Elements 7.0. And I'm not sure yet, but I think that ImageReady functionality may be built into CS3 when you save to Web.
I have updated my landing page with a rotator that has 15 images on it. Some of them were resized and that reduced resolution, but it had to be done as the rotator gif as it is now is just over 10MB. When I was trying to build it the first time, preserving resolution, ImageReady kept walking all over the Swap buffer and dogging my system. CS3 has a habit of doing stuff like that to Swap too, when many images are open or they are very large.
One last comment ... It's cool how you can use 'Tween' to ghost the image change. Setting the time the 'tween' images get displayed helps the effect too, but I think it might be better to have a default fuzzy image to put in there between the real photos to make the ghosting clear-cut.
Thanks for you help. I didn't find what I was looking for because I was searching for 'rotator' and not gif animation.
Beware, Yahoo search engine shows several sites providing animation gif editor downloads and flashes warnings that the downloads are 'dangerous'.
You can check out my rotator by clicking the link to my sight in my signature.

I am a little confused. Now did you do this with Photoshop CS3? And will Photoshop CS3 do this?

Charles,
I created the GIFs with CS3 and then started ImageReady 7.0 separately after closing CS3, loaded the new GIFs and added them to a new GIF which was made animated. I don't know yet if CS3 has incorporated ImageReady features within it. I'll have to check that out.

Bobdog,
That's a nice script and one that I've bookmarked but what I am looking for is a Photoshop CS3 slideshow that can be imported into Flash. What I want to accomplish is at this site (http://www.outofherevacations.com). I can figure out how to create a slideshow in Flash, but I am not sure how to incorporate the slideshow into a .fla file and the resulting .swf. Does anyone know how to do this?

Why would you want to do it in Photoshop when you can do it directly in Flash?

Umm... a main Flash file is already .fla, to export it you just go to File > Export > Export Movie. :)
Some links that might help you:

I know how to make a slide presentation using a template in Flash, and yes it is an .fla file which generates a .swf file to be played in a browser. But what I end up with is ONLY the slide presentation in the .fla. I want the slide presentation to be A PART of a larger Flash movie, like the one in that link mentioned earlier. The header file and menu file are separate Flash movies. I want the slide presentation to be only ONE of the features in the LARGER .fla file. I don't know how else to explain it. Can you tell me how to do this in general terms? :o

Yes, I understand now. :)
I think what you're looking for is to put the slideshow inside of a Movie Clip symbol. That way it will have it's own timeline and can run independently of whatever else you have in the FLA, and you can move it around like a seperate object. Select it all, then right-click > Convert to Symbol. Make it a movie clip and name it whatever you want.
Then place it wherever you want inside your "larger FLA."
I think that will work. :o

I understand and am sure that I can do that. Yes, I couldn't separate the fps from the rest of the movie when I tried to import it as a .swf file. I took a class for Flash 8 a little over a year ago but I haven't used it much since.
Thanks again. :D
