What does ImageMagick do in phpbb3?

I'm not completely sure but it's most likely image verification (generates CAPTCHAS) and attachment thumbnails and resizing.

GD will work just as well though. :)

The thing is that PHBB is specific about its requirement for ImageMagick in particular.

I guess I'll download it.

All the versions of phpBB I have ever used have worked fine without it.

ImageMagick is already installed by default, at least on my box (if that's what you were referring to.) :)
