Frontend for user-searchable database

I would like to create a MySQL database that my website visitors can search, and display the search results, but not alter the data in the database. Only I would have access to populate the DB. Would any of the programs Blue Host provides via the control panel be helpful in creating the search interface? While I'm generally pretty good with coding, I don't do it enough to really remember much. In any event, if any of you could point me in the right direction, I would be most appreciative.

Thanks, but Entropy appears to search the website, and I need a program that will search an internal database.
