New with FTP transfer.. please assist..

So thought I had transferred successfully with FTP. I uploaded to the public_html directory as I saw posted on other messages. However, the only way my index page (home page) loads in the browser is if I type in my domain with /public_html at the end.
What do I need to do that I only need to type my domain?

Sorry- I am new to this FTP stuff. I just transferred from another provider using their site builder tools so never experienced this process with directories, etc.

If your index.html file is sitting in public_html, pointing a browser to your domain (like http://www.example.com) should work. If it doesn't, contact BH via Live Chat (big blue button on the main bluehost.com page) - something's not right with your account setup.

My guess is you accidentally created a public_html subdirectory under your public_html directory and copied index.html into that.
