Can you tell a masterpice of abstract art from a painting produced by a chimp?

Take this quiz to find out! (http://reverent.org/an_artist_or_an_ape.html)

Me too. Though, I bet the same people who pay $1000's for the artists would be conned into the ape's art.

About a quarter of the tested get 100% on this quiz.

An interesting fact is that three quarters of the quiz-takers make errors sorting the paintings which were produced by different species.

Famous or unknown artist? (http://reverent.org/great_art_or_not.html) quiz is much more difficult.

The way the strokes are made gives it away but still I'm all for chimps doing art. - as long as they don't hang with pop-singers Get a layman to do some art then compare. I'm sure the 'artistic chimp' will have an edge.

Note that with two choice questions random guessing will, on average, give a 50% score. Thus 83% score is not that impressive.

It was easy after looking at it for a few minutes. The ape paintings all had one thing in common (stroke and random blotting, bleeding colors), and the artists paintings had structure and complex schemes.

It may have helped me that one of the websites I created is a website of 20th century art.

Sure, that have helped. Otherwise you wouldn't know that those are works of art.

you can spot chimps by looking at the edge of canvas. apes cant sense the edge of the canvas and going over it with multiple single strokes. and also repeating pattern with different color on same spot gives artists away.

Yes, the difference between an artist and an ape is on the edge.
