Hello-

I'm in a real bind trying to publish my sites live. I've gone around in circles for 2 weeks and still haven't managed to figure it out.

I have a guy whose been kind enough to work with me and explain things but I'm still struggling.

He suggested he make another video walking me thru the process on my Filezilla program then reverse it so I can do it myself. He said for me to give him my user and password so he can log into my account and record everything on video step-by-step while he shows me what to do right and what I'm doing wrong.

I'm thinking to myself "isn't this like giving my bank acct and PIN # info out?"

But what other choices do I have and I'm at my wits end with this.

After all is done, I want to obviously change my password just to cover my arse. I've snooped around and didn't really see anywhere front and center where it tells me how to go about doing this.

Can I do the password change, and if so, where will it tell me the steps I need to take?

Thanks,
Glenn

Go to cPanel and look for the Change Password link under the Preferences window. If you are concerned about this person accessing your site, why not just give FTP access only? It can be disabled once he has finished his efforts and you never have to give away your user name and password.

That's a good idea RedSox. Altho my user and passwords are one and the same. But I'm using Fantastico FTP and I'm obviously not that tech oriented so he shouldn't have any reason to even know whho my host co, WP or anything outside of Fantistico is anyhow, right?

Thanks for your response!

If your password is the same as your user ID, you may be setting yourself up to get your account (and possibly the server) hacked. I would strongly suggest you change it ASAP!

I'm not able to go in and change my password per the above steps.

This is what's happening:

As soon as I go into my cPanel and click onto "change password" in the preferences section, a box pops up that says:

"Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site http://box299.bluehost.com:2082/frontend/bluehost/index.html Operation aborted"

It doesn't give me any options. If I click "ok" or the "x" either way it boots me right off the cPanel. I've tried 5 or 6 times now and same thing. WTF?

Anyone clear this up for me and what's going on now?

I go 1 step forward in one area and 2 steps back in another. Can't ever seem to get everything to work just right all at once.

Thank you

no, my password isn't the sme as my user name. But if he has to get into Fantistico, the user and password there is the same as what's in my Bluehost acct. I changed it just to see once and I couldn't access Fantistico unless I entered the new password, which is the same as my Bluehost acct.

I still haven't gotten back to him as I've wanted to make sure what my options were first. Now I can't even access my own "change password" account for some reason (as described in the above post).

Grrrrrr...

Thx for taking the time to respond back to me.

Fantastico is very close to being dropped by BH. Simple Scripts is the better option for automated software installation.
