Hello,

I just lost my web designer due to an unfortunate circumstance. Does anyone know if premade templates work and which one would be the best to go with. Or...any other idea's on how to get a website up and running inexpensively?

Thanks!

SuZ

Well, your question is a bit vague.

Could you expand on what the site is for, and what you want it to do?

And, do you have an existing site for us to look at? Maybe you could start asking basic questions and the forum members could help.

I think she 'may' be refering to that "free webpage template" link in CPanel :)

If that's the case then I don't recommend using those templates but just because they rather pricey. The "free" ones are terrible

But to answer your question "Yes" templates work :)

Keep in mind there are many types of templates and what you choose will depend on your site. If you are running a store or a CMS you will want a different type of template.

If you just want basic webpage templates I recommend http://www.openwebdesign.org/ OR http://www.oswd.org/designs/browse/

All of the templates are Free and I've literally installed and tweaked dozens of them. :)

I hope that helps.

The website will be on travel, I will need interactive information such as booking flights and hotels. So I would need one that has PHP/SQL or .... to interact between those looking to book and the different affiliates. I already have content for a few hundred pages.

It's not a blog but information to help teach people how to travel, like how to find the best fares, what documents needed, insurance in case of cancelation, and so on. Basically a travel agency. But with a few different twists that should make the site interesting.

For some reason I never got the website from my friend who designed it so now I have to start from scratch again. I'm still very new at this although have taken Dreamweaver classes, PHP/SQL, and search engine optimization but have found that just a few courses don't really get you where you need to be very quickly.

I hope that gives you more information.

I appreciate any help anyone has to give to get this site a good start.

Thanks!!!

Suzie

You really don't need php/SQL to make an "interactive" site ... it really depends on what type of interactions you intend.

My "guess" is you are wanting some form of CMS ... I prefer Joomla but it also has the steepest learning curve. Anywho I recommend you just look through what is available in the autoinstall options. If you are comfortable installing your own scripts there is pretty much no end to what you can do but the auto-installs will be the quickest and easiest :)
