Why is the mailbox showing full when there is nothing in it.
I have scoured the threads and have not been able to fix this bug.
I have used the online chat with BH twice, and they claim to have fixed it but it doesn't show any less. I know others have mentioned the problem but would like a formal explanation of what is happening. I don't use forwarders and I assume I don't have it set to leave mail on the server as I don't see any.
What gives with this ?? I don't think Chat is interested in helping on this one.
I have resorted to deleting all the accounts and reinstating them to get it to zero out and then it just accumulates again.
:(
Why is that? This is just plain impossible. I don't want to keep upping my quota just to accommodate an empty mailbox. Why oh why ??
Thanks in advance

I am having the same problem with email boxes saying they are full when they are really empty. It is a waste of my time when I have to either up the quota for my email accounts or delete them and make new ones, not to mention my customers not being able to receive emails because it says it's full.
Someone please tell me what is going on or how I can fix this issue.

Do either of you have Spam Assassin enabled?
It might be possible that spam is accumulating for your email account, and that it's unable to be seen because the Spam folder isn't enabled for viewing in the email client.

Just checked to make sure ... but yes ... Spam Assassin is enabled for all email accounts and it is set to the default of 5 ...
I did see a Clear Spam Box button below that so I told it to clear all spam boxes ... I will have to check one of the accounts which claim to be full even though it's empty to see if this took care of the problem ...

Had the same problem. Support sent the following:
http://helpdesk.bluehost.com/kb/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=540
which shows how to delete the "maildirsize" file
That stopped the mailbox full messages and every thingworks ok, but the usage shown in control panel/email accounts is still showing high usage on empty accounts, which is a pain. Pointed that out to support who seemed to think this irrelevant.
Anyway, deleting the maildirsize file seems to fix it
Cpanel has become fairly obsessed with YAML lately. The mailbox sizes that you see in your control panel are read from a file called email_accounts.yaml (~/.cpanel/email_accounts.yaml). The easiest way to fix the totals that you see is to delete the email_accounts.yaml file (and email_accounts.cache). Once you have done so, simply re-login to your control panel and the totals will be regenerated.

I am having the same problem and here is the big issue: if it says your mailbox is full your emails bounce. So I have an empty mailbox and nobody can send me email! I tried to delete "maildirsize" file and that didn't help. I can't find the .yaml file that was referred to. Can anyone else help me?

Many people don't realize that having this error makes emails messages to bounce off because the email quota is being reported incorrectly, showing way too much space usage.
Strangely enough, the sender doesn't receive a notice indicating that the message wasn't delivered.
In our case, not receiving emails means not receiving order confirmations, technical instructions, and a lot more messages that our operations depend upon.
We can't afford to have flaws in this service and if Bluehost doesn't take this seriously enough, we intend to cancel our subscription and turn to someone else who doesn't have this problem.
I suggest everyone to do the same.

Contact BH support for help resolving this problem - it seems that only some users are having this problem. Use Live Chat (big blue button on the main bluehost.com page).
As a temporary fix, I think you can just increase the storage limits for that POP account.

That figure is only cPanel getting it wrong. The actual figure used by the email account will be the correct one.
The same error will occur in what cPanel displays where ever you go for your hosting.

This doesn't explain the fact that messages are not being delivered to those who exceed their quota limit, even though the space usage is wrongly reported.
As webmaster, I keep getting email messages to an alternate mailbox rerpoting these events and in most cases those users complain about not receiving messages.
Why doesn't tech support focus on solving this problem and avoid the temporary solution they do each time I call? How long will we have to wait to see a permament solution?

I have the same exact problem and people are complaining. How many people will BlueHost loose over this issue? I will be one if they don't fix it.

Complaining here isn't going to help. If you all complain to BlueHost support and explain properly what the problem is then they should be able to fix it.

This is a known issue according to the KB, and deleting the file specified does fix the problem after about 10-15 minutes.
However, this is hurting me a lot. Some of my customers are raising this issue for a second time, and as a user above mentioned it's affecting my and their reputation every time emails start bouncing with exceed quota messages.
It looks unprofessional for them and I, it's blocking important emails for them and I... and it's making a very bad impression of Bluehost.
I won't have any choice but to move to another provider if this doesn't get resolved in the next week. I can't retain my customers if I keep having to manually fix their accounts... not to mention a waste of my time doing it as well.
I hope somebody *responsible* and *proactive* from Bluehost reads this and gets on top of the issue. In the mean time I will raise another ticket.

If you want BlueHost to take action then you are best to talk to them about it as it can sometimes be months between any BlueHost support staff visiting this user2user forum.

I have contacted BH support and they do a fix which is not permanent. I have called several times to fix the same problem.
We have decided to move our web site and domain to another provider who doesn't have this issue.
It's not a matter of calling support, it's a matter of fixing the problem.

Since so few are having that problem it is probably something specific to your site which will most likely recurr on whatever hosting you move to.

You talked about a stupid answer, I have the same exact problem and I changed nothing and this problem came from nowhere , I used bluehost for almost two year and never had this kind of problems , to me its look like staff quality at bluehost going downhill.

We are only a user-to-user forum. Either contact BH to resolve the problem or make good on your "threat" to leave.
