Hi,
I've used the Bluehost Unlimited FTP for over 2 years - suddenly it doesn't work anymore whether I'm using Firefox 3.0.3 or IE7?

I have the most recent Java (6.0.100.92) installed, with Sun Microsoft confirming that it is installed and working correctly.

With either browser, I now receive this message:

"The application's digital signature has an error. Do you want to run this application?"

Name: Unlimited FTP
Publisher: Unlimi-Tech Software Inc.
From: http://www.bluehost.com"

Another dialog box appears as well:

"<!> This application will be run without the security restrictions normally provided by Java

<!> The security certificate has expired or is not yet valid

<i> The security certificate was issued by a company that is trusted."

On one occasion, I received this message:

Error 404 - "/cgi-bin/uftp//cgi-bin/uftp/media/rejectPerms.html" not found.

I have contacted Bluehost with all of these details, and twice now they have recommended that I start using Filezilla, instead.

I would prefer to continue using Bluehost's Unlimited FTP as I have been, and would like to know why I am no longer able to do so?

If anyone with an insight herein would care to chime in, I certainly would appreciate it. Thank you.

Have you contacted BlueHost support to let them know?

Yes, I have contacted the Bluehost technical support twice, and then submitted a ticket for help. I have received 2 emails in return, from a Support Level 1 representative and the second from a Technical Support Engineer. Each response is posted below:

1) I'll be happy to help you, if you already already reinstall java on your computer I would suggest you at this point to either try to use a new browser such as firefox, or any other browser besides the one that you are using to see if there is a problem with the browser. If that doesn't work I would suggest you to use "filezilla" this is an ftp program that you can download for free, as far as how to use this program look at the following link, that should help you out. If you have more questions let us know.

2) Please refer to the image attachments on this message. I was able to login to your account and use unlimited FTP with the firefox 3 standard security settings. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate. The digital signature for our Unlimited FTP does not have any inconsistencies.
If you want to use unlimited FTP you can download the client side version and run it on your computer. Find it here:

Alternately, our office uses filezilla because it is one of the most reliable and user friendly FTP clients out there.

Each response was received quickly. However, neither resolved why I am unable to use the Bluehost Unlimited FTP services - the second email even offered me screenshots of what the Unlimited FTP screen shows when all is working fine (a screen I've seen many times, and hope to see again, firsthand).

Thanks again for any help offered - much appreciated.

If it's any consolation, it doesn't work for me, either, and I've got a very clean machine with Java 1.6.0_10 installed. I get an error about an "incompatible magic value." In Firefox, there doesn't seem to be any way around that. In IE7, it complains about a corrupted digital signature, but I can tell the browser to run it anyway, and then it does work.

I hadn't discovered it because I never use Unlimited FTP - why mess around with a kludgy Java applet when there are so many full-featured, rock-solid FTP client programs out there?
