My site has been active on bluehost for a few weeks, but it does not show up when I google it. I've read the google page and it says I need to make a sitemap. I guess I could figure this out, but I was wondering if there's a shortcut to getting my site recognized by google. The site is www.ravenwoodpta.com
thanks all......

Your site is fairly straightforward, so submitting a sitemap is not going to be worth the effort. Any search engine will have no problem following the links to the various pages.
It can take a few months for the search engines to find and index a new site. Ironically, just posting the link in these forums might shake things loose. You can submit the URL to each of the search engines, which should speed things up.
One thing I would suggest is putting a meta description into the head section of the page. The search engines will often use this as the site description when it does pop up in the results. It should look like this:
<meta name="description" content="Information about the Ravenwood Parent Teachers Association (PTA).">
The description should be a simple declarative sentence that explains what the site is all about.

Research backlinks. That seems to be the fastest way to move up in google. http://imageplace.info/img/502/w08q1028hnzf/biggrin.gif
