I just had my Websites and email suddenly suspended because of supposed violation of services. I had stored a few files that were backups. I find it very unsettling that Bluehost would cut off my website at 3:00 A.M. in the morning without any warning. Yes they sent me an email at the time they did it but of course I could not read the email since they blocked access to my email accounts at the time they sent the email.

Actually, I find the lack of backup storage to be a major problem. I noticed by looking at previous posts to this forum that others have also used Bluehost to backup files. What is really annoying is that it took me days to upload these files and I must erase them immediately if I am to get my account restored. If I find another off-site location to upload them to it will again take me days to upload them.

I don't need 1.5 terabytes of backup storage 10-20 gigs would be enough. Maybe $ 6.95 a month is low for this but I would like some backup storage and would be willing to pay more for this. I have looked at amazon's backup solution which is very reasonably priced but the lack of ftp access is annoying. I would prefer that Bluehost charge extra for backup storage if they cannot supply it at the rates they are charging rather than suddenly cut off my account without warning.

I actually find that their advertising to be misleading since they make a big point of unlimited storage. Yes this is very cheap for that but they should make a bigger point of mentioning what they mean by this rather than having us find out by having our accounts suddenly deactivated. I am really reconsidering whether to keep bluehost or switch to a more user friendly host provider even if they charge more. I really do not like the fact that they find it okay to suddenly shut off my websites without warning. I am the customer.

Regards,
Michael

BlueHost probably do not have room in their data centre for the thousands of extra servers they would need if they were to start offering data storage as well as web hosting. Most of the web sites they are hosting are probably well under 1Gb in total size since unless you have video ot other huge file formats it would take many millennia to fill that amount of space with regular web content.

I actually find that their advertising to be misleading since they make a big point of unlimited storage.

They give you everything they promised you, as Early Out said:

There's no such thing as "unlimited everything." Anyone who believes otherwise is too naive to be let out of the house unsupervised.

Of course, the front page of BH says no such thing, anyway.

It says, "unlimited hosting space." That's true - you can store as much stuff as you want to, as long as it relates directly to the web site(s) that's being hosted. It doesn't say "unlimited backup space" or "unlimited storage space." The key word is "hosting."

It says, "unlimited file transfer." Again, true. To my knowledge, no one has been booted off for transfering too much stuff.

It says, "unlimited domains." Again, true. You can host as many domains under your account as you like.

It doesn't say "unlimited CPU time" or "unlimited email volume," and for good reason - BH doesn't offer those commodities without limitation.
