I'm on box18. HTTP is dead. Again.

Another day, another outage. Generator run out of juice?

This is a great and free 3rd party monitoring tool. It let me know as soon as my site went down.

I started monitoring my site a few days ago. 95% uptime. Not so good...

Those are not very accuret and I wouldn't soley trust them. I hear about everyone having outages and downtimes. I can honestly say I don't think my two sites have every been down. If they have I have never noticed it and/or it was only a few minutes.

Those programs are programmed to go off and alert you at the instance they lose contact with your host. Which they could lose contact over any little thing, but that doesn't mean it's because your host may be down. This is just from what I have gathered from them and read about. I tried one once and it wasn't very accuret.

Where are you viewing these logs at?

As I stated above, I am just going off what I have experianced and from what I have read about them.

how do you tell what box you are on?

I don't show that that server was down for an hour at any point today. Are you sure that you are looking in the proper logs?

The easiest way is to ping your domain name, the last octect of the IP address is typically your Box number (except 1-7 would be 141-147)

I haven't been completely down, but I've been unable to access SSH and at 3:41 PM Central I can no longer access my email and I'm on box 42. Actually the last couple days I've noticed this same behavior and it's been extremely annoying and the exact reason I moved hosting companies before.

how do you tell what box you are on?It's the last octet of your IP address. So (making something up at random), if your IP is 70.135.45.63, you're on box 63.

That's what I am wondering. I couldn't find any logs that was related to server uptime or downtime in my cPanel. I hope your not referring to what the 3rd party app is telling you.
