I use Zen cart, very happy. I hear OS Commerce is nice too.

i have been looking at it, and it looks really nice. Zencart seems to be kinda loame. not many templates. Cube has so many templates and many are free!

I like cubecart the best. Oscommerce is great but i find it a pain in the butt to make core changes.

Cubecart is my least favorite by far, but Zen Cart and OSC are almost exactly the same. So ZC or OSC are both great choices. (in my opinion)

one of the first ecom sites I set up (http://www.myredneckstore.com/) [myredneckstore.com] was in OSC and I was really disappointed with the way it came out. a portion of it was that I am decidedly anti-redneck, the other was that I'm an XHTML junkie and OSC did not agree with that (ew, tabular layouts).
since then I've had to do another ecom site, and I chose CubeCart because it's advertised as fully valid XHTML. so far I like it much better! I'm not a huge fan of PEAR's template system (I think it spreads code out too much and makes it difficult to find what you need), but other than that I haven't had any gripes.

the main thing i like about cube, is that the mods are plentiful and the developers are there to answer your quuestions. Zencart is a pain in the ars, forum is a complete mess. Templates are soo expensive.

Cube they are cheap and everyone is nice.

I use zencart with over 10,000 products.
They now have a book out that shows you how to use the features that are so much more advanced. It cost $ but is worth the expense. It is a users book. It does not help much with developing. It did help me with things I could not figure out on my own, or understand in the forums.

I have not used cube cart or os commerce. For those that use it, how easy is setting up ssl? Do they have bulk upload capability? Can you set meta tags, images in the bulk upload?

I installed Zen Cart, CubeCart and OS Commerce. I finally settled on Zen Cart because I finally got frustrated enough to just put my efforts on learning the idiosyncrasies of just ONE cart. It just happened to be Zen. In my opinion, the best shopping cart is the one you choose to use, and learn.

Have only used osc from the above three and that too for only a brief period as i found it to be a pain in the butt. Changed to paid x-cart since then and am more than happy with it.

Has anyone used the free shopping cart that PayPal provides?
How does it compare?

The PayPal shopping cart is VERY basic. It's not software you install on your site, but snippets of html code you imbed in your pages. There is no database support, so maintaining customer lists, inventory and records must be done manually. You depend on PayPal for purchase notifications via email, etc. If you only have one or two items you're selling in very limited quantities, it might work for you.

That's what I suspected.
