create a database from shell prompt

Is it possible to create a database from my shell account at a mysql prompt?

It seems not because I keep getting a denied access error. I have no trouble creating tables but so far can only create databases from within the control panel.

Just wondering if I'm doing something wrong.

You're not doing anything wrong. The only way to create a database is from cPanel.
