I am a research student and want to take up something to supplement my income. I know there are many on-line money making options available, but I would like recommendations for a reliable source.

I would say there is always ways to make money online. However there is no such thing as an Free and easy way to do it. If you have a good idea and you can market it then perhaps you can do well with some kind of blog or writing.
Here is a great take on the subject

Dude, that ^ was hilarious.
Is there any coincidences in OP's post and [same spam post on another forum - link removed by mod]?
If not, try http://www.google.com. Dig up information, it's not that hard.

And I'll bet a week's pay that "wisdanca" and "Edric6" are the same person. I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop here. This looks like the classic spam routine - one new poster says, "Where can I find out about X," and, as if by magic, another new poster shows up a day later and says, "Try this wonderful site!"
Amazingly, he pulled the same stunt twice on that other forum without the forum mods picking up on it!

I think Domain Flipping is a very good option. Its all about buying domains, restructuring them and then re-selling them at a higher price. The difference in prices will be your profit. [Spam link removed by moderator] is a good guide for domain flipping.

Looks like I've won my wager! There's the "sock puppet" of brucer, miraculously showing up to provide the "answer" to the phony question. :D
Links removed, users banned, thread locked.

restructuring them
??? - not something that can be done with domains. This is definitely a con.

The path to riches:
1. Buy unused, unwanted domains.
2.
3. Profit!
