Dedicated IP Purpose

Does have a dedicated IP address help your SEO efforts instead of sharing your ip among others.

I am not so sure of the purpose of have a dedicated IP except to say that it is unique

It should have no effect on SEO.

There are only two reasons to have a dedicated IP. First, if you want to use SSL on your site. Second, if you're trying to run a script that needs to address specific port numbers (like Ventrilo).

Yes, if you're not doing one of those two things, I suspect it's just money down the drain. Someone else may have another idea of what a dedicated IP would be good for, but I can't think of any reasons at the moment.
