Hey all

Ok here is the issue I am having some problems with.

I have an SBS 2008 server and I am trying to get SMTP email to work but am having some troubles and wondered if any of you guys have any advice if possible.

I have a domain lets say www.mydomain.com with an MX record of mail.mydomain.com. I have set up the smarthost configuration in Exchange to connect to this to send / recieve email. I also sent a telnet to the MX address on port 26 to verify that an SMTP route exists (the telnet came back with an appropriate response).

I have set up some email accounts on that sbs server so I can test this. However when I send an email from gmail to one of those addresses lets say info@mydomain.com I recieve a bounceback email stating that that account does not exist.

If I try to send out from the sbs 2008 server the email goes nowhere, the only thing I can think of is their is a setting in the cPanel at bluehost that I have not set up...

Anyone with any ideas?

Try port 25.
Also, what settings does your server require and what settings do you have in place for it? If you paste more information here, there might be someone who can help a little more.
Also, try using the server name for whatever server you are on. box#.bluehost.com. You should be able to see which one you have in the Stats column on the left side of your cPanel. Mine is box381.bluehost.com, for example.

Port 25 is the standard port. Other ports can throw errors sometimes.

Greetings,

I am having problems also getting Exchange to work with BlueHost email in SBS 2008.

I am using Port 25. Attached is an abbreviated log of my attempts. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Any mail sent through the Bluehost SMTP server needs to authenticate. You need to configure your exchange server to login to the SMTP server with a username and password. This username should be an email address set up in the cPanel under Email Accounts. This is the only way to send mail through the BH server.
