Someone please have pity on a newbie...

I'm trying to set up RSS feeds with feedgator and cannot get them to pull from the url. Everytime I ask it to import, it fails saying nothing is there. I've checked the urls and they're correct. I've checked with BH and they say the firewall isn't affecting it as long as its on port 80. I've been on the joomla forum, the feedgator forum and this one for 2 days and cannot find anything to tell me where to start troubleshooting this.

How do I find out which ports the feeds are on (I understand 80 is pretty standard), and if its on something besides 80, how do I fix it (instructions even a moron could follow, please)? Does this have something to do with htaccess, is there a code I need to insert (I do know how to work with those files and can edit them, but again--instructions for an idiot)? Where would I look to find the log/error message to start tracking this problem down? I've been doing web sites for years, but this is my first foray into PHP/SQL and I'm lost on where to find codes, etc.

Thanks in advance.

I use feedgator in Joomla and I have no idea why or how you are messing with ports? All you need is the properly formatted RSS feed address. Try one from http://www.npr.org/rss they all work fine with feedgator.

Keep in mind that Feedgator doesn't recognize all rss formats ... my recollection is that it had problems with ATOM and OPML so be sure that your feed source is using rss 0.92, 1.0 or 2.0.

Also be sure you setup your sections and categories correct so Feedgator has someplace to put the feeds.

Good luck!
