Hello,

I have 4 new sites on your server with very low traffic - 23 visits and 3000 pv a day (including bots). All is cached on ftp. I see server load 10.00 and error when I browse websites is very often. Is it normal?

I plan to move 1 domain (300.000 pages a day) into bluehost, but I think it is not a good idea.

For $100 a year should I expect something more.

First, this is a user-to-user forum, not a BH support site. So, when you say, "your server," you're talking to the wrong people. "We" don't have any servers - BH does.

Second, the server load is showing the activity level of all the accounts on the server, not just yours - roughly 450 accounts, and around 1000 domains.

Third, what makes you think that a server load of "10.00" is a problem? Are you experiencing any sort of degraded performance? What do you think that number represents?

Finally, for $100 a year you get shared hosting. If you want a server that handles only your own account, you need dedicated hosting, and it's going to cost you more like $100 per month.

What do you think that number represents?

It means that the pages will load slowly as some of the users will have to wait until the web server is free to process their requests.

... and should support websites with small traffic.

Why do think that "10" means that the site will load slowly? Why does "10" mean that users will have to wait for anything?

And shared hosting will, BH better than most.

You seem to be inventing a problem where there isn't one.

I've contacted support about the issue.. A a program which was recently developed by bluehost called cpud, which throttles processes using too many resources, renders all load monitoring software completely incorrect. I was told because of the throttling program, it won't be un-natural to see load of 150+.. and it still won't actually be under 'heavy load'.

I could go into more detail about it, because support sent me a pretty detailed response. Let me know if you want more info.

You mean like the detail on Matt Heaton's blog, linked to from the announcement that is listed first on the Forum?

I've played with this new cpud thing, and it's a lot of fun to watch. I started a small number crunching program in one terminal, and watched it using top in the other. The server spent it's valuable time on other things, giving my resource-hog-of-a-program only minimal CPU time. I've never seen a "smarter" CPU scheduler, and I'm very impressed by this technology.
