View Full Version : Can SpamAssissian auto whitelist thru BH?
I've looked online, and the SpamAssassian site says it's capable of autowhitelisting, that is, if you send someone an e-mail, the address is automatically cleared to receive mail back from it.

Is there a way to do this at the server level with BlueHost's version of Spam Assassin? Constantly logging into my domain to check the spam folders and manually adding misrouted e-mail addresses to the SpamAssassin whitelist is getting old. I'm not a programmer, so if anyone can help, please keep the instructions as simple as you can. Thank you for any help or direction offered. - Quad

Bluehost runs a pretty vanilla version of spamd/spamc, so anything that you can do with spamassassin should be possible on Bluehost.
The auto whitelist is just that, automatic. Since it is automatic, it has less weight when spamassassin scores messages. It should be enabled in a default spamassassin installation.
The spamassassin auto whitelist feature isn't aware of any e-mail that you send. Sending e-mail, and having incoming mail scored for spam are two completely independent tasks. Spamassassin is only invoked at the time that a message is being received. Over time, if a particular e-mail address is scored as "ham" (non-spam), the auto-whitelist will remember that. If an e-mail address is generally marked as spam, the auto-whitelist will also remember that.
If you want specific e-mail addresses or domains whitelisted, you'll need to add that yourself using the manual whitelist.
Thank you Programmerq for the explanation. Sounds like there isn't another way around this with SpamAssassin other than manually Whitelisting.

Have you asked support to make sure your emails are not still going via Postini? If everything was reset correctly then there shouldn't be any difference from before you trialed Postini.

I too tried Postini and it was a nightmare. Everything got screwed up and after about 3 weeks doing live chats and calling them on the phone, i got everything back the way it was. All emails were still going through Postini even the users that i didnt sign up were getting their email routed through Postini. It was a mess. If you notice that your email is still getting routed incorrectly, get on live chat and ask them to fix it. If after those 24-48 hours later its still the same, call them. If its still the same call and live chat with them.
