I'm trying to close my bluehost account and I opened a ticket asking them not to auto renew. I got the following response:

We can set your account and any domain names on the account to expire. Because your account security is important to us, we will need to verify that you are the owner of the account before we may make any changes or release information specific to your account--this includes canceling services, issuing refunds, etc. Please verify you are the account's owner by replying with the password on the account or the last four digits of the credit card -- this is for security purposes. If you have paid with PayPal please respond with the password for your account.

Once you have verified we will be happy to assist you by answering any questions and manually processing your requests.

Anyone know how I stop them auto renewing? I'm in UK so don't really want to telephone and I'm ****ed if I'll email my password...!

Like the email mentions, you can also supply the last four digits of your credit card if you'd rather not provide your password. Otherwise, you'll need to bite the bullet and call in.

You can turn off auto renew from the cPanel.. Keep in mind that the hosting account and the domains have two separate renewal spots..

From the cPanel, in the 'Preferences' section Click on 'Renew Your Account'. It looks like a purple recycle icon... Select 'Do NOT renew', and a reason, and click Continue.

In the domain manager (if your domains are registered at bluehost). Click your domain to select it, click on the 'Renewal Options' tab. Select 'Do NOT Renew' and hit Save.. Your primary domain won't let you do that, so just hit manual renew with no reminder, it does the EXACT same thing..

Hope that helps.. Plus.. Why would it be a big deal if you gave the same billing dept. that handles your entire credit card number, your password over email. Yeah it's not secure, so change it after they do the work... Would you rather they let just anybody who emails them cancel your account? They HAVE to verify your ownership somehow.. and they don't keep very much sensitive info on file..
