Technically, there aren't any different as they are just names. However, in marketing and psychological, there are BIG differences between both! Most people assume that domain name end with .com. They call it the DOT COM BUBBLE, not the DOT ORG BUBBLE or DOT NET BUBBLE! Google use google.com and not google.org. Microsoft use bing.com and not bing.net. All great websites uses .com and the reason is it becomes the habit for everyone to "assume" that .com means websites and websites are .com.
Am I clear? :D
If you insist on using .org, make sure you register and secured the .com for your own as well and do a redirection from .com to .org. You don't want someone else to register it and get all your traffic for free later when your site get popular! [as I say, everyone will thought your site to be .com]
If its a business, use a .COM ... If you are an organization with lots of info or resources, use a .ORG
A business usually tries to turn a profit and if this is you - use a .COM
If you need hosting for your domain, most hosting companies like bluehost will throw the domain in for free - if you sign up for a web hosting account...
