Hi. I downloaded Filezilla and set it up. I think it was correctly done, as far as I can tell.

I clicked the www on the top right box. I connected and uploaded all my files, but nothing shows at my URL. All of my files are in the lower right panel. Status said, "Directory listing successful."

What shall I do? What shall I check? What do you think I did wrong? I must have done something wrong.

Thanks very much,
~Lil

Make sure that you load them into the public_html folder.

Hmm. I deleted them from the wrong folder and published them over again into the public_html folder. Still isn't showing up.

You know at the top of the Filezilla window - are the boxes that say Host and Username and Password and Port supposed to be blank? Mine are blank.

Thanks for your help, farcaster!

Do you have an index.html or index.php in the public_html folder?

Or did you load another folder into the public_html folder? If you did then you can access by http://www.example.com/anotherfolder where example.com is your site name. If that is the case, then there are other ways to get to it with an http address. Let us know.

OHMYGOSH. I'm so happy! I see now, I need to put the pages directly into the public_html folder.

Thank you SO much!!!!!!!!!!

But before you go, tell me one more thing please. I have almost 300 files as I'm moving my Geocites site over here. If I can't put the whole folder in public_html because it creates like a subdirectory folder (I'm not sure I'm saying it right), must I place each file one by one into public_html?

Thanks.

Good that you found it!

In Filezilla - at least on my Mac - the local pane is on the left, and remote site on the right. In the remote pane, to make this easier, make sure you have opened/selected the public_html folder. It will actually show that as the remote site path name.

At this point you can go to the local pane and either drag and drop, or right click and select either Upload or Add Files to Queue. Be careful with the drag and drop, as that could become a "drag and lose" if you drop it into another folder that you have on the remote site already. I suggest the right click method.

If you select Upload, then they move immediately.

If you select Add Files to Queue, you can just get tons of them ready to transfer. You'll see the Queued Files number at the bottom. When you are finished, then select Transfer from the menu and select Process Queue. Now you can sit back and take a breather while they move over to Bluehost.

Try a few at a time first till you get the feel for it. And it all works on folders too. Select a folder and everything under it moves.

Click on the top file in the list. Hold down the shift key and select the bottom file in the list. Right click and select Upload. All the files will then be uploaded one after the other.

I'm ecstatic. I am all moved and it looks good. Woohoo!

Barry, thanks a million for helping me and for responding so fast. You rock.

I'm gonna sleep very contentedly tonight knowing it's all done. Guess what - I'm going to buy another domain and try WordPress.

THANKS and have a great night.

P.S. - Felgall, I didn't see your post till after I finished. Too bad for me. My mouse hand is all claw-like now. lol. But that's okay because I'm glad it's done. I will surely remember your tip in the future. Thanks much, ~Lil

While I haven't used Filezilla, I'm also quite sure that you can select (highlight) all of the files by clicking on any file in the list and hitting the "a" key with the control key held down. Doing this should select all of the files in the list.

Yes it does but then it also selects any sub-folders as well (which is fine if you want to upload them as well).
