301 redirects

I'm trying to place some 301 redirects in the .htaccess file for some pages that have been discontinued, they don't seem to be working though.

I'm doing them as posted below, which we normally do on other hosts, is there something different with bluehost that would prevent this from working?

Redirect 301 /index.php?id=students http://ourdomain.com/index.php
