WordPress automatic upgrade not running

hi folks -

I'm trying to upgrade to the newest version of WP released this morning, and my site just stalls - it gets as far as
"Downloading update from http://wordpress.org/wordpress-2.9.zip."

and the zip file is appearing in the wp-content directory - but no dice moving forward. checking the WP forums, the most common solution is just making sure you're running PHP5 - which i am. Anyone have another suggestion?

You may be running into a php memory allocation problem.

Check this post (http://www.bluehostforums.com/showpost.php?p=76609&postcount=21) and see if it helps.

Also, do the upgrade through the admin panel of WP instead of SimpleScripts if that is what you are using. I upgraded two instances of 2.8.6 to 2.9 without any issues that way.

If this doesn't help any, then check out the forums at Wordpress and see if anyone has an answer there. I've seen a bunch of posts there about the same problem.
