hey guys,
I'm newbie to web designing, I am trying to re-design my video page on my website to have a format like the one on youtube. I wanna have thumbnail previews of videos, ability to sort out the videos alphabetically using artists names and getting stats for the top 10 most played videos where this stats would be placed on the main index page.

you'll need to provide some more information if you want any real help. what is your site??

there may be a program that already exists for this sort of thing, but don't expect to get as much traffic and use as YouTube gets. Google Video can't even do that, and they're, uh, you know, Google! =)

the best advice I can offer without knowing anything else is to do some research. look for a PHP video upload program or something. maybe Wordpress or Drupal has something that you could use, but I'm not sure.

if you can't find a preexisting program to do it, start learning PHP (http://www.php.net)! it's a pretty easy language and there are millions of resources for you on the internet.

good luck!

Thanks page1ink,
Here is a link for my Videos page.
BONGO RADIO VIDEOS (http://www.bongoradio.com/videos.htm)

I'm using flash video player that uses xml file to create playlist. What I'm trying to do is to create a page where users will be able to browse videos by individual artist alphabetically.

Thanks balend,
I think the link you gave me could be one of the solutions with my project. What I was trying to do is having my own videos without people being able to upload their videos on the server. I also would like to have stats for the most watched videos and a place where people could comment about specific videos. So its like youtube without having viewers/users ability to upload any videos since I'd have my own videos from various artists.:)

BrandonK,
I'm novice to web designing but would definately try to learn php, i think it might take longer for me to learn php and was trying to do a quick fix on this problem on my website. Aren't u still looking for php developer??:D :D thats what your signature says !!!:D

Yep, the one that helped me with ProfileHouse bailed on me. *mumbles naughty words of anger*

So, yeah...good luck with PHP..I just don't have the patience. :-p

PHP scripts are kinda cool, learning aint too bad when you have the script already written for you. I run 3 main php scripts on 3 sites but i have other smmaller ones as well and you can pretty much learn as you go and you qickly learn what you can and cant do within the script. And most scripts have a pretty good forum that have the users who can help you. just like here....Thats the only reason i have survived thus far. But they are fun to learn on the go (sometimes frustrrating) but not all that difficult with support forums and a littl bit of time learning from your mistakes

Can't i request that codec to be added on my mime types?? Actually all my videos are flv and not mpeg format,i dunno if that would make a difference. So I'm still stuck.

James thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

Can I point out that youtube is losing serious money?

Just a word of caution. A few of the recording companies are going after YouTube for posting copyright material on their site. Don't know the result of this but it was in the news a few days ago. Remember Napster!;)

Warner to send videos through YouTube

By MICHAEL LIEDTKE
AP BUSINESS WRITER

SAN FRANCISCO -- Warner Music Group Corp. has agreed to distribute and license its copyrighted songs and other material through online video trendsetter YouTube Inc., marking another significant step in the entertainment industry's migration to the Internet.

Under a revenue-sharing deal to be announced Monday, New York-based Warner Music has agreed to transfer thousands of its music videos and interviews to YouTube, a San Mateo, Calif.-based startup that has become a cultural touchstone since two 20-something friends launched the company in a Silicon Valley garage 19 months ago.

Perhaps even more important for YouTube is that Warner Music has agreed to license its songs to the millions of ordinary people who upload their homemade videos to the Web site.
This just happened few days ago.

Is your site hosted by bluehost??? Bacause this scripts only works if your server supports ffmpeg and ffmpeg-php. I called Bluehost support and they said those extensions are not supported with their servers therefore the script won't work. Please lemme know if you are hosting here or not.

I think instead of Bluehost giving us more bandwidth and tons of gigs for storage that we are never going to use, they should add more extensions and features on their servers. For instance, i requested ffmpeg and ffmpeg-php extensions but they are not offering them.
