I’ve had a primary domain w/ Blue Host for approx 4 years that shows up very high for main key words in all search engines. In short order I got another domain under the same hosting account. That URL also did/does well and shows up on all search engines as its own URL.
However several months ago, I bought 9 other domains all on the same hosting account which at first started to show up on searches as if pages under my primary domain on Bing but didn’t show up at all on google. Blue Host formally refused help under their no “SEO” advice policy though one rep floated advice to insert code into htaccess by first going to the File Manager.
This is what I found in public_html. The individual files (about 12) belonging to the primary domain were listed along with a list of 9 folders--each named for each of the other Domain/URLs--and as one might expect each of those folders contained the appropriate files for each of those domains.
The rep suggested I some code for search engines to be put into the htaccess file & to create a new folder for the files belonging to my primary domain; after that maneuver, the new URLs did start showing up on Google but my primary domain (my bread and butter) was then reduced to showing up as an index of the other urls and didn’t send surfers to the correct sites.
I then went back to the original arrangement (empty htaccess) after which Bing didn’t find any of the new URLs and Google and Yahoo show them as if they are pages on the primary domain.
I’ve spoken with several friends who use dreamhost and godaddy who have not had such problems. I like Blue Host and imagine there’s a simple enough solution. I’d rather not switch but Blue Host either has some unusual way of dealing with domains under same hosting account or just isn’t interested in solving this problem. I've search through the forums but can't quite make sense of things. Any advice?
